Pakistani cinema has seen a revival in the last few year with local movies doing great in box office and at times are preferred over their Bollywood counterparts. Here we look at three most promising movies that are slated for winter 2017 release.
Verna is going to be Shoaib Mansoor’s third feature film that is scheduled to be released on 17th November. With Mahira Khan in lead, the film also stars Haroon Shahid, Zarrar Khan and Rashid Naz amongst others. From the film’s trailer, it can be ascertained that the story is about a young couple caught in grip of challenging circumstances when another man enters their life. Mahira Khan looked slick with portrayal of her character with impressive cinematography to back the movie. With a portfolio that includes the likes of Khuda Kay Liye and Bol, Shoaib Mansoor is back again to aim a big hit at box office.
Rangreza has already wooed fans with its powerful music and now the movie is all set for theatrical release on December 21st. Starring Bilal Ashraf, Urwa Hoccane and Gohar Rasheed in lead roles, Rangreza is directed by Amir Mohiuddin. Judging by its trailer, Rangreza surrounds the lives of three musicians with audience set to be treated to both pop rock and classical music genre. Eyeing a worldwide release, Rangreza promises to be a colorful treat to the audience.
3. Arth – The Destination
Last but not the least is Shaan Shahid’s most awaited remake of Mahesh Bhatt’s 1982 Bollywood classic “Arth”. While the film’s story has been altered to reflect the contemporary lifestyle in Pakistan, Shaan’s “Arth – The Destination” keeps the soul of the original film alive. The film’s trailer was released in October and going by it, the film focuses on extra marital affairs surrounding four people. Shaan and Humaima Malick will be seen essaying roles of a singer and an actress respectively while Mohib Mirza and Uzma Hassan will be seen playing a director-writer couple. The film is written and directed by Shaan Shahid. Will Shaan’s Arth be able to live up the expectations? Only time will tell but going by the looks of it, Arth the Destination is a powerful drama in waiting.
