ICON, a Texas based startup, has introduced a new method of building houses i.e. through 3D printing. They built their demonstration house in just 24 hours, and at a cost of only $10,000.
For building this house, ICON used an industrial sized Vulcan printer, and it’s now working to drop the cost to just $4,000. “It’s much cheaper than the typical American home,” ICON co-founder Jason Ballard told The Verge. The house has an area of 650 square feet and is built using cement.
ICON aims the product primarily for developing world, and is planning its first economic housing project in El Savador. They are partnering with housing solutions nonprofit New Story in this regard.
ICON brings together a wealth of experience with its co-founders having backgrounds in 3D printing, housing and entrepreneurship.
